Questions to Ask an Abortion Clinic

  • What type of abortion would you perform at this point in my pregnancy?
  • What happens in the procedure?
  • What is the cost of the procedure? What do the fees include?

  • What type of anesthesia is available? What are the risks of each type?
  • Will I be able to discuss all of my options with a counselor?
  • What follow-up care do you provide?
  • How do I take care of myself after the procedure? Why?
  • What should I watch out for after the procedure? Why?
  • Can I come in to see your clinic before making an appointment?
  • Is the physician performing the abortion certified by the state board? Is their medical license current?
Call your state health department for the phone number for your state’s Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline to find out if the physicians are certified and if there have been any complaints or malpractice suits filed against the doctor or clinic.
  • What area hospitals does the physician have admitting privileges?
  • If I have complications such as high fever or excessive bleeding would your clinic see me immediately?
  • Do you have whole blood on hand if I need a blood transfusion?
  • Do you have cardiac arrest equipment or respirator?
  • What plan do you provide in case of an emergency? Do you have emergency transportation?
  • Do you have insurance to protect me in case there is a problem?
